The Ara Pacis Augustae, or Altar of Augustan Peace, is an ancient altar dedicated to Pax, the Roman goddess of peace. Commissioned by the Roman Senate in 13 BC and inaugurated by Emperor Augustus in 9 BC, it was built to commemorate Augustus's victorious return from campaigns in Hispania and Gaul.
